Paul Ygartua’s artistic journey traverses the vast spectrum between abstraction and figuration, showcasing a boundless imagination and an unparalleled sensuality. An innovator at heart, he seamlessly transitions between various styles, deftly exploring multiple themes and techniques simultaneously.

Since the onset of his career, Ygartua has displayed a remarkable prolificacy and an insatiable curiosity for diverse subjects. His stylistic versatility knows no bounds, allowing him to effortlessly maneuver through mediums and genres, including Realism, Expressionism, Abstract Expressionism, Post Expressionism, Surrealism, Abstract Surrealism, and his own revolutionary creation, Future Conceptualism.

Born in 1945 in Bebington, Cheshire (Liverpool), England, Ygartua embarked on his artistic odyssey after graduating from The Faculty of Arts Industrial Design, Liverpool Art College, in 1965. His migration to Vancouver, Canada marked the beginning of a lifelong dedication to painting, which became the very essence of his existence.

As a painter and muralist with bases in Canada, France, Spain, and England, Ygartua has left an indelible mark on the global art scene. His monumental murals, including the renowned “Heritage Series,” which celebrates North American Natives, have garnered international acclaim. Notable among his masterpieces are “The World United,” commissioned by the United Nations for the World Expo 86 Vancouver, and “Legends of the Millennium,” hailed by ASKART as perhaps the largest mural ever painted by a single artist.

In 2013, Ygartua’s mural “United in History,” commemorating the rich heritage of Denny Island and The Heiltsuk Nation in Bella Bella, earned him the endearing moniker of “The Mural Miracle Maker.” With each stroke of his brush, Ygartua continues to captivate audiences worldwide, leaving an enduring legacy of artistic brilliance and cultural celebration.
